What’s the interest in gold farming in Diablo 3? Surely farming items is the best approach? Well that’s a double edged sword. Check out my first legendary Diablo 3 item:
Look at that, I’m comparing it to my regular run of the mill magic helm I’ve equipped. No bonuses where it counts. You are wholly at the mercy of luck when you farm for magic items. Gold is a more reliable, if less interesting income. So how to go about it?
First up – gearing for farming gold. What gear to use for gold farming? Gold farming requires a high GF%. Always include it. Given that with zero +GF you can still get hundreds of gold from a mob or barrel it’s worth converting each pile into much more. At the same time you get more gold on higher difficulties. Shouldn’t you just strap on your best survivability and dps gear and head to Inferno? (This is the kind of thing I love writing about in the guild.)
Well not really. If you can farm Inferno without dying then sure – few are in that boat though. The majority will find Inferno (or even Hell) too high a cost in repair bills. There’d be no point farming for gold if you are spending 25% or more on repairs.
Next – choosing a location to farm gold. This is the clever bit – remember back in beta, everyone raved about the Royal Crypts because of it’s high density of smashable pots and lack of mobs? It’s still good. Better yet if you can quest that far in Inferno you’ll get even more gold and the first couple of chambers (before the event) have no mobs (any time I’ve tried). You can go all out with +GF gear in inferno and not die regularly.
There are other locations like this but most often you’ll be mixing scenery and mobs so you’ll need to drop difficulties or swap gear out.
Next up – choosing a gold farming class. What’s a good Diablo 3 farming class? I’m sure no one picked a class based on how fast it would smash barrels but the good news is that every class has the capacity to AoE large areas of furniture and gold containing barrels in a short space of time, cheaply.
The concern for those of us who want to farm the most gold, is how each class handles the higher difficulties and killing mobs there. Now Diablo 3 is a pretty balanced game but some classes (*cough* Demon Hunter – I should keep my mouth shut as I love mine) get a few advantages when surviving those higher areas. If you want to learn more about those kinds of advantages, gold farming, and higher difficulties then I think you should check out the Diablo 3 Gold Guild & Guide -> Click Here <-
More importantly, not all classes have an even distribution of that boost the chance that treasure and gold will drop. That’s a definite advantage (for example a DH can use Companion Ferret for a direct GF boost).
Really though, if you check the boards and other places where the community hangs out, there’s a fair distribution of threads like: ‘Barbarians CAN’T solo HEll zomg‘ and ‘Barbarians are FINE I’m in Act IV Inferno No Sweat BRo‘. Whichever the case may be (for each class) I’m sure balancing passes by the devs will leave classes largely balanced. The class specific farming skills aren’t going to kill anyone either – or force those of us happy with our 60′s to reroll just yet.
For me, farming gold isn’t impacted too much by class choice.

Currently have a level (33?) Demon Hunter and I find it extremely fun to play.
Me and my friend are making Hardcore or Hardmode characters and I need to get a gold farming hardcore character now (that way if it dies I won’t be too distraught). I’m going to make another demon hunter as it has wonderful crowd control abilities + numerous AOE moves that can drop the largest groups of mobs before they lay a breath on me.
I personally find monk just as lively as demon hunter, the demon hunter can clear out more breakable stuff faster(rapid fire, duel 1h cross bows), but monk can clear out enemies easier(due to 20% damage reduction, and stacking pure _____ resist + resist is equal to highest talent, giving me 50% reduction instantally+20%+___ from armor(for physical)), on top of that, they can convert spirit to life, and have natural immunity(3 seconds from everything and damge that can reflect it back), the only problem is that they dont have unexpensive AOE
Demon hunter on the other hand, as i played, i realized something early, they cant take a hit well, their resouce regens, making them good, but their biggest problem is fast _____ _____ elites, esp illusionist, or mortars. They do have a higher dps(same gear as my friend, but dif weapons, he has 2k more damage than me) sitting at level 53 for both of us, I see you praise Demon hunters, i find both demon and Monks the best classes to play(all classes 20+ just to test them out)
Smoke Screen + Prep is essential for a DH yeah – pretty much from Hell onward. Which makes me nervous when I hear Blizz are thinking of a balancing pass for DHs – if they take away lovely SS then there will be a lot more instagibbed Demon Hunters lying around.
DH is by far the best class hands down i have a lvl 60 monk and a lvl 60 DH the monk is nice but at 795 resist all 48k life and 34k dps the monk still dies pretty fast in inferno act 3 and 4 my DH has 23k life 48 is her best resist think its fire but her dps is 180k with 3.20 attacks per sec nothing can get close to her and when it dose pop that SS and use tactical advantage to gain some breathing room
if you find mobs closing in even after that use stamped to knock them back this dose not really apply to gold farming
so on another note i gold farm in inferno with 245% GF on my DH i farm in the Royal Crypts and its by far one of the fastest ways to farm gold its safe takes about 58 sec to clear and gets you around 11k per run if i was not a cheap skate i might buy a guide but im willing to bet they will tell me a bunch of junk that i already know.
Good tips man.
Which class do you prefer though? I love my Barbarian but he’s not fit enough to shine my DH’s shoes at the moment. The DH is an effective glass cannon BUT she has become oh. so. boring. I want to spec OUT of EA, Stampede, SS, Prep, Devouring Arrow. It’s mad that the vast majority of DH’s have that same build then either ‘Vault’ or ‘Caltrops’! 1.0.3 should change this. Looking forward to tanking groups, roaring and taking hits.
I can’t really comment on guides, I mean, I have one (gold guild), but there are some that are better than others. And there are some players who just won’t need them. Most come with refund guarantees too.
